County Meath Golf Club

meathgc.gif1898 saw the birth of the 'Co.Meath Golf Club' in Effernock on the Trim/Dublin Road. Unfortunately, due to lack of interest the club was forced to close in 1925. Golf had not yet caught on as such in Ireland!

Re-opening took place in 1935 at Dogstown, but forced closure again occurred in 1950 through both lack of interest and the inability to meet high rents, much to the disappointment of Captain Charles Tyrrell.

However the increased national interest in golf in the sixties due to the success of Christy 0'Connor and Harry Bradshaw, led once more to the rise of Trim Golf Club from the ashes: in 1968 the club reopened at - Newtownmoynagh, again under fhe captaincy of Charles Tyrrell.

In 1987, a further 70 acres were bought. Work commenced in 1989 on modern, exciting 18 hole course whose official opening took place in 1991.
